New Moreton Hall Sainsbury’s Local, in Bury St Edmunds, could open 24 hours a day, seven days a week

A proposed Sainsbury’s Local store on a Bury St Edmunds housing estate could open 24 hours a day, it has been revealed.

Sainsbury’s has applied for a licence for its proposed convenience store in Lady Miriam Way, occupying one of two units on the Lark Grange area of Moreton Hall.

West Suffolk Council is considering plans for the shop, including a service yard, 19 car parking spaces and landscaping.

Originally, the convenience store – near the Flying Fortress pub – was slated to open from 7am-11pm daily, but the Sainsbury’s Local could open 24 hours a day, Monday to Sunday, according to the new premises licence application.

The alcohol licensing hours could run from 7am-11pm daily.

Crime, disorder and public nuisance prevention measures the retailer intends to implement include CCTV, maintaining adequate staff and security and signage asking customers to leave the premises quietly late at night.

Representations concerning the licensing application can be made in writing to West Suffolk Council, or by email to licensing@westsuffolk.gov.uk, by August 1.

Sainsbury's already has a supermarket in Bedingfeld Way, on the fringes of Moreton Hall.

The original planning documents said the new local centre could be open in March 2024.
