A143 crash in Stradishall, between Bury St Edmunds and Newmarket, sees two drivers taken to hospital

Two drivers have been taken to hospital after a two-car crash on a major route.

Police were called at about 8.20am today to reports of a two-vehicle collision just off the A143 in Stradishall, between Bury St Edmunds and Haverhill.

Firefighters and the ambulance service, including an air ambulance, attended.

The two drivers have been taken to hospital but their injuries are not considered to be life-threatening or changing at this time.

An ambulance service spokesman said one was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital and the other to West Suffolk Hospital.

A fire service spokesperson said a female casualty was trapped, with crews using small tools to free them from the vehicle and they were left in the care of the ambulance service.

A second female casualty, who was not trapped and was out of the vehicle when crews arrived, was also in the care of the ambulance service, they said.

Three fire crews attended from Clare, Haverhill and Wickhambrook.

The road was closed while recovery of the vehicles took place but has since reopened at about 10.55am
