Suffolk Highways called after large amount of sugar beet dumped on the side of Old Norwich Road, Ipswich

A large amount of sugar beet has been ‘dumped’ on the side of a road on the outskirts of Ipswich.

Suffolk Highways was called to Old Norwich Road, near Whitton, this morning.

This issue has been reported to Mid Suffolk District Council.

A spokesperson for Suffolk Highways said it was believed the beet was fly-tipped – and that the authority received a number of calls about it.

The sugar beet was left without its permission, and the authority is trying to establish contact with whoever is responsible.

As it lies on an active bus route, no road closures are planned, she said.

A spokesperson for Mid Suffolk District Council said it was aware of the issue.

Before dealing with it as a possible fly-tipping, the authority is keen to speak to the farmer involved to find out what’s going on.
