Matt, from Bury St Edmunds, seen on national TV alongside Bradley Walsh and Anne Hegerty this week after taking part in ITV’s The Chase
A Suffolk resident appeared on national television this week after taking part in a popular quiz show.
Matt, of Bury St Edmunds, featured on the Bradley Walsh fronted ITV show The Chase on Tuesday.
He originally applied for the show during his final year of university back in 2018, as it was something he would regularly watch with his housemates, and that he was inspired by Walsh’s quip at the end where he invites viewers to get involved if they think they are ‘clever enough.’
Matt and teammate Dave made it through to the final Chase against Anne Hegerty with £13,000, Matt contributing £6,000 himself. However, after posting only 13 correct answers The Governess duly hunted them down.
Matt spoke to SuffolkNews about his experience on the show, and he said: “The actual day of the show was such a fun experience; all the show team are fun, friendly and enthusiastic as you’d imagine.
“It’s surreal being on the set you’ve seen so many times on TV.
“When it came to the episode airing I was super nervous but once I’d seen my cash builder round I settled back down – I enjoyed watching the episode with my family and my girlfriend.”
Matt said he got a lot of supportive messages from friends, family and colleagues about his appearance, alongside the odd bit of stick, which he said was ‘probably deserved.’
When he took to the floor for the cash builder round, host Walsh quizzed Matt about his occupation as an acoustic consultant, something which seemingly befuddled him.
“So I’m an acoustic consultant; I work mostly in the construction industry, I provide assistance on noise and vibration issues on a wide range of projects including schools, hospitals, hotels, auditoria and residential and mixed-use developments from planning stage to post-completion.”
He said his job takes him to a variety of places, from measuring noise levels to inform the design of a new building, to building sites testing sound insulation between homes.
Matt also heaped praise on the host and the Chaser, even though she mercilessly took him and Dave down, saying if he was given the chance to go on the show again he would do so ‘in a heartbeat.’
“We were playing for £13,000 in the final chase but unfortunately only got 13 points which just isn’t enough; Hegerty saw us off with over a minute to spare – ouch.
“They were complete pros (Walsh and Hegerty), very friendly. Bradley and the whole show team make the whole experience proper good fun.”
