Major delays and closure of A14 west and eastbound between junction 51, Needham Market, and junction 50, Stowmarket, after lorry crash

There were major delays on the A14 after a lorry crashed into a central reservation.

The carriageway was closed in both directions – including west and eastbound.

Drivers heading westbound between junction 51, Needham Market, and junction 50, Stowmarket, expected delays of up to 40 minutes.

Around the same junctions, but in the eastbound direction, drivers expected delays of up to 10 minutes.

Tailbacks were around two miles long.

According to the AA map, the incident was first reported just before 6am.

A lorry going Ipswich-bound hit the central barrier near Creeting St Peter – a village near Stowmarket.

One driver said he had been stuck in traffic in the westbound direction since 7.20am.

According to the AA map, there are also reports of slow traffic due to an obstruction on the carriageway eastbound before junction 47, near Woolpit, Bury St Edmunds.

The road was reopened at 8.40am.
