Auction House East Anglia hopes to get dilapidated town house 38 Fornham Road, in Bury St Edmunds, over the line without fresh auction
An auctioneer is hoping to get a dilapidated Suffolk town house over the line without needing to put it back under the hammer.
Auction House East Anglia, which is managing the sale of 38 Fornham Road, in Bury St Edmunds, has made the comments after the property failed to sell at auction, despite a final bid of £187,000.
It had initially been listed with a guide price of £170,000 to £190,000.
The property is just outside of Bury town centre and counts the town’s train station and a Tesco superstore as nearby amenities.
A spokesperson for Auction House East Anglia said that the company is ‘following up with interested parties and presenting offers to the vendor.’
The spokesperson further added the group wants to avoid another auction for the dwelling.
At auction, the house was described as a ‘peach of an opportunity with packs of potential’ by the auctioneer.
Bidding on the day started tenuously on the day at £170,000 and eventually got to £187,000, at which point no further bids were lodged.
This meant the gavel did not go down on the dwelling as the auction house was unable to sell at that price.
The three bedroom property has a sizeable garden, but is in dire need of refurbishment.
The back garden is overloaded with waste and the ceilings and walls of the property are peeling.
Shrubbery to the front and back of the property is overgrown and will need to be appropriately managed.
The house is also a stone’s throw from the A14 and has secondary schools County Upper and St Benedicts in the near vicinity.
The Linden Tree and The Beerhouse are also within a five minute walk.
At the end of a terraced row, 38 Fornham Road is in Council Tax band B.
