A dilapidated town house that went unsold at auction has finally been purchased for nearly £200,000.
The property, 38 Fornham Road, in Bury St Edmunds, initially went under the hammer on November 1 by Auction House East Anglia, although it failed to sell due to bidding not reaching a required threshold.
The final bid in the online auction was £187,000.
However, the property has now been taken off the market ahead of the next round of bidding and has sold for just £1,000 more – at £188,000.
The run-down dwelling was described by auctioneers a ‘a peach of an opportunity with packs of potential’ with nearby amenities including the town’s train station, two pubs, a Tesco superstore and easy access to the A14.
It has three bedrooms as well as a large back garden, which is currently overloaded with waste.
The dwelling is spread across three floors, with a cellar, ground floor and first floor.
The living room of the house has peeling walls and ceilings, and the property in general is in need of extensive refurbishment.
On the end of a terraced row, the property is in council tax band B.
Secondary schools County Upper and St Benedicts are also in the nearby vicinity.
