Team GB Hockey Women through to semi-finals as Ex-Ipswich Hockey Club player Hannah Martin scores crucial goal





Another successful day for Team GB yesterday saw the women's hockey team advance to their third consecutive semi-finals in a crucial penalty shootout against Spain.

Ipswich-trained Hannah Martin, who played for Ipswich Hockey Club during her time as a student at Ipswich School, scored one of the two GB goals in the game.

She passed two defenders with ease and then fired the ball between the Spanish goalkeeper’s legs, bringing her to a total of four goals in the games.

In the 38th minute, GB's Grace Balsdon scored another goal, and the game ended in a 2-2 draw, leading to a tense penalty shootout.

The shootout saw GB goalkeeper Maddie Hinch save all four Spanish attempts.

Hannah Martin and teammate Sarah Jones both scored their penalties, making the shootout a clear 2-0 win for Great Britain.

The team will take on The Netherlands in their semi-final at 2.30pm on Wednesday, August 4.
