Team GB Hockey Women in contest for bronze medal after 5-1 semi-final defeat at Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games
Great Britain's women's hockey team face a tense match against India in contest for a bronze medal following their 5-1 defeat.
The team played reigning world champions, The Netherlands, who were 2-0 up by half time.
GB's Giselle Ansley managed to score for the team, but the game ended in a 5-1 defeat, sending the British women into a fight for bronze.
Ipswich-trained Hannah Martin, who played for Ipswich Hockey Club during her time as a student at Ipswich School and has been a key player in the team's Olympic success, said they are "bitterly disappointed."
“We wanted to keep it tight for as long as we could but unfortunately those two goals came in quick succession. We knew we could bring it back, but it wasn’t to be today," she said.
“I think there wasn’t enough sustained pressure, we knew if we could keep getting at them then they would go in, but we just didn’t quite do that today.
I’m bitterly disappointed but we’ll come out fighting for that bronze medal."
The team will face India, who lost their semi-final match against Argentina this morning, on Friday, August 6.
