Team GB women's hockey team, featuring Ipswich-trained hockey star Hannah Martin, win bronze medal in Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

Great Britain's women's hockey team secured bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games this morning, following a gripping match against India.

GB were 2-0 up inside the first quarter, but a thrilling second quarter left the team 3-2 down by half-time.

Another two goals from GB, however, secured their place as bronze medalists, with the final score being 4-3 to Great Britain.

Ellie Rayer, Sarah Robertson, Hollie Pearne-Webb, and Grace Balsdon scored the crucial goals for Britain, leading the team to its third consecutive Olympic medal following gold at Rio.

Ipswich-trained Hannah Martin, who has played a huge roll in goal scoring throughout the team's Olympic journey, was within the starting XI and worked hard to set up goals and keep India's attacks at bay.

After the match, Hollie Pearne-Webb commented: "I’m incredibly proud of the squad. To the 16 who played and will get a medal, but also the three reserves who deserve a medal, plus the players at home not selected.

"We have 26 in the squad but so many more not selected. We've had a lot of turnover in the last five years, I wish they could all get a medal because they deserve one. That's why we're here and how we've achieved it."
