Fire crew from Long Melford attend flooding at a property in Lavenham, between Sudbury and Bury St Edmunds





Firefighters attended a flooded cottage this morning after water found its way into the home and into the electrical systems.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue was alerted to a property in Melford Road, Lavenham, at 8.44am.

This comes following reports of about three inches of flood water seeping into the home, and its electrics.

One engine, from Long Melford, near Sudbury, attended the scene, and pumped the flood water into a nearby dyke.

A spokesman for Suffolk County Council said the fire service did all they could to help the resident and ensure the systems were safe.

They were then advised on future flood prevention.

The incident was dealt with by 9.44am, and crews left the scene by 10.27am.

This comes as Suffolk is being lashed with heavy wind and rain due to Storm Henk.

An amber warning for wind and a yellow warning for rain are in place, and are expected to remain for most of the day.

A number of roads are closed or otherwise affected by severe flooding.

Suffolk Highways is dealing with a number of incidents and is working to clear roads for traffic.
