Storm Ciarán: Flood warnings and alerts issued across Suffolk, with towns including Stowmarket, Needham Market, Southwold, Beccles, Sudbury, Diss, Haverhill and Thetford all at risk
More than 10 flood notices are in place across Suffolk as a result of the dangerous weather lashing the county from Storm Ciarán.
14 cautions are currently, with three warnings and 11 alerts.
A flood warning is where flooding is ‘expected’, whilst an alert signals where it is ‘possible.’
The first warning is in Haverhill, for The Stour Brook from the town to Sturmer, at Meldham Bridge to Linnetts Lane.
The notice extends through the town, with schools Castle Manor and Samuel Ward potentially in the firing line.
The second warning is at Bumpstead Brook through Steeple Bumpstead to New England, near Haverhill and Wixoe.
The River Brett also has a warning in place, from Lavenham to Higham, including Monks Eleigh, Hadleigh, Kersey and Layham.
Properties are at risk of flooding in these areas and residents are advised to monitor local weather and river conditions.
A flood alert is in place for the upper Stour and its surrounding tributaries, with Little Yeldham, Kedington, Sudbury and parts of Haverhill at risk.
To the west of this, an alert has been issued for the rivers Brett and Box, from Cockfield and Higham to Boxford – areas including Stoke-by-Nayland and Hadleigh are at risk.
Towards Mid Suffolk, an alert is in place for The Rattlesden River and River Gipping, through and including Stowmarket and Needham Market, with surrounding areas Onehouse, Combs Ford and the previously Storm-Babet-affected Coddenham Road at risk.
Continuing with the Gipping, flooding is possible downstream of Needham Market to upstream of London Road Bridge, Ipswich after an alert was issued, with potential spill-off to Great Blakenham, Bramford and Sproughton.
On the border, risks as the Little Ouse River and River Thet at Thetford has seen an alert issued for the area, with the treat going from the town to Attleborough, whilst also potentially exending as far as Woolpit and Elmswell, where the A14 was recently closed due to flooding.
Heading towards the east and the coast, an alert is in place for The River Waveney from Diss and the River Dove to Ellingham, including Bungay and potential spill off to Mendlesham, Wetheringsett and Gislingham.
The tidal River Waveney also sees an alert issued, from Ellingham to Breydon Water and surrounding areas including Beccles Quay, Oulton Broad and Somerleyton.
Moving towards Southwold, the rivers Blyth, Walpole and Chediston have an alert in place, with at risk areas including Bramfield, Wrentham, Blackheath and Halesworth.
Back towards Ipswich, risks at the rivers Deben and Lark have seen an alert issued, with Debenham, Bromswell, Clopton and Martlesham all at risk.
An alert is also in place for the River Lark, from Sicklesmere to Isleham, as well as the River Kennett from Cowlinge to Freckenham.
