Sudbury Christmas Tree Festival brings festive joy to town

The Christmas mood was bouncing in Sudbury this week, as groups turned out in their dozens to decorate their festive trees for an annual festival.

Sudbury Rotary Club’s Christmas Tree Festival kicked off yesterday at the Sudbury Arts Centre on Market Hill, returning to its long-time home after a couple of years away at St Gregory’s Church.

More than 70 individuals, families, churches, schools, charities and community organisations are taking part in this year’s festival, which is the first major event at the newly-refurbished venue.

Visitors are invited to go and see the trees, which include contributions from Sudbury Air Cadets, Citizens Advice and the Bury Methodist Church, any time from 10am to 4pm today and tomorrow, and between 10am and 3pm on Sunday.

Proceeds raised during the five-day seasonal celebration will go towards the rotary club’s chosen charities for this year, including the East Anglian Air Ambulance and the Kernos Centre in Friars Street.

Club president Tony Platt said: “We look forward to welcoming visitors from far and wide.

“In these worrying times, both nationally and internationally, we hope that visitors will derive much blessing and enjoyment from this year’s display of trees.”
