Over 700 Suffolk residents could be eligible for financial support after flood damage as a result of Storm Babet

Over 700 Suffolk residents that were severely affected by Storm Babet will be eligible for financial support during November.

Following the recent government announcement of grants and council tax reductions through the Flood Recovery Network, councils across Suffolk, as well as the county council, are collecting information to distribute funding to those that need it.

Together the districts have received reports of 750 homes or businesses that experienced internal flooding, with this number expected to increase.

All reports of property flooding need to be submitted via the Suffolk County Council reporting tool.

Leader Matthew Hicks said “We are committed to ensuring this vital financial support finds its way into the hands of those who need it.

“I encourage those who have not yet submitted a report via the reporting tool to do so as soon as possible.”

Homes that suffered flooding between 19 and 25 October due to Storm Babet could be eligible for a grant of £500 to assist with initial recovery, whilst businesses could receive £2,500.

Premises could also be eligible for a 100 per cent council tax discount for a minimum of three months.

A sum of £5,000 to make properties more resilient to future flooding can be applied for, with Suffolk County Council seeking to set this scheme up at the earliest opportunity.
