Church Farm in Earl Soham, near Framlingham, given go-ahead to build micro wind turbine
A farm near Framlingham will be able to bring down its energy needs after a renewable project was given the go-ahead on appeal.
East Suffolk Council approved plans this week for Church Farm in Earl Soham to erect a nearly 18-metre tall mini wind turbine, to be built on land to the south of the area.
Plans for a turbine at the farm were refused twice last year, with the third application being approved on appeal.
Ms Andrews, the owner of Church Farm, said the turbine would provide energy for her property in a bid to reduce the farm’s carbon emissions, providing up to 11,400 kW of power per year.
The turbine will be built by Britwind.
The planning inspector said the scheme would have minimal impact on the local landscape.
Work to build it will begin in March 2024.
Joe Ridgeon, director at national planning specialist Hedley Planning, who oversaw the appeal, said: “We are delighted to eventually secure planning permission for this exciting project and very much look forward to seeing the plans come to fruition.
“We continue to face an energy crisis in the UK, so harnessing the wind can be one of the most efficient ways to supply clean energy for local landowners and homeowners.
“We expect to see more applications coming forward as people continue to see the advantages and plug in to green energy.”
