Framlingham’s Broad Street Christmas windows display shines for its tenth year to raise money for charity
The curtain has been lifted on a town’s tremendous Christmas treat, as an annual Christmas windows event marks its tenth year.
Advent calendar window displays will adorn Double Street in Framlingham over the coming weeks, with a new, hand-crafted display revealed each day.
The displays will be accompanied by people collecting donations for the Disaster Emergency Committee, Framlingham Scouts and Guides, who are fundraising for a new hall, and the town library, which is raising money for a children’s corner.
Organiser Gill Knights, from Framlingham, said: “The event is much the same as last year – but this year we also have a tin-can choir competition.
“This is our tenth year and we are proud that every occupied house is participating – even those only recently moved in to.
“Residents enjoy hearing children’s chatter while they look at the windows, but it is definitely not only children who enjoy them.
“I have been told that the Christmas Eve visit is the highlight of the season, and the display is almost magical.
“Having lots of visitors makes the effort worthwhile and we hope that people will enjoy finding the tin-can choir this year.”
The 24 tin-can choir figures will each appear in a different window, bearing a letter, which helps spell out a Christmas greeting when the letters are rearranged.
Entry forms for the competition and instructions are available from the library.
Framlingham’s advent windows raised £1,536.24 last year, beating the £940 from the previous year.
