Ipswich Town column: Joey Sadler looks ahead to Hillsborough trip as Town face Sheffield Wednesday in the Sky Bet Championship

The international break is over and the attention thankfully returns back to club football. Although I didn’t mind seeing the superstar that is Jude Bellingham ripping apart the Scottish defence on Tuesday night, I am much more excited to see Samy Morsy play in the middle of the park this weekend.

Town travel up to Hillsborough favourites and expecting to come away with a positive result and if the current league table is anything to go by, then you’d fancy them to do so.

Sheffield Wednesday are one of the few teams that Kieran McKenna is yet to beat, during his short time as a manager and one of the few teams who managed to not get beat by Town last season.

However, the start they’ve made this campaign hasn’t left much to be desired and they seem to have all sorts of problems off the pitch, as well as on it.

So with that considered, you could be forgiven for expecting Town to head up the A1 with three points in their sight this Saturday, but I do think we need to slightly more cautious than perhaps some are forecasting.

There was a strange rivalry between ourselves, Wednesday and Plymouth last season, as we fought it out for the ultimate goal of promotion, which we all subsequently achieved. So I don’t think for one second that The Owls will be making it easy for The Tractor Boys this weekend and will be looking at this fixture as a big opportunity of their own, to get their season up and running.

I foresee this as being a bit of a scrappy affair and think Town will need to adopt the same resolute and hard-working attributes they have showed in the games with Sunderland and QPR most recently.

If we play to our absolute best, then I’d fancy us to be on the right side of any scoreline this season, but I just feel this may be one of those where we need to ‘slog it out’ at times and thankfully that’s something we’ve already shown we can do so far this campaign.

The trip to Hillsborough could see debutants for both Dane Scarlett and Axel Tuanzebe this weekend, who will be eager to put on a blue (or orange) shirt for the first time.

I wrote last week about just how good the signing of Axel Tuanzebe could be for Ipswich Town but that we also need to manage his fitness in order to get the best of him.

But, we must all remember how much improvement our fitness department has made in recent years and trust Kieran McKenna to be the man to get the former Manchester United back to the level, where we all know he can play at.

I’d imagine they’ll both be on the bench this Saturday and could be needed at any moment, depending on how things are playing out.

So five games in, four victories on the board and the opportunity arises for Town to continue this marvellous start they’ve made to the season.

We will beat anybody on our day, so let’s hope this particular day turns out to be this Saturday.

Up the town.
