Ipswich Town column: Joey Sadler believes Kieran McKenna’s men are ‘capable of doing big things’ in the Sky Bet Championship

Kieran McKenna’s men continue to take the Championship by storm.

I think every Town fan at the beginning of August would’ve been quietly confident of letting the rest of the league know that we aren’t just here to make up the numbers, and some even thinking about a potential play-off charge.

But the start we’ve ended up having is quite frankly incredible.

Six wins in our first seven back at this level, with four on the road, is ridiculous but this Kieran McKenna team continues to impress.

We’ve become used to this dynamic, fast-flowing football under our talented manager, so no doubt he’ll be pleased to see his side go and get two 1-0 wins on the road and show they can ‘get the job done’ when needed.

Saying that, Saturday’s win in Sheffield should’ve been by more goals and I think you could argue the performance deserved more than just the one on Tuesday night, too.

Where does this end? We have our feet tightly gripped to the board and are riding one special wave at the moment and the early signs show we’re not planning to fall off anytime soon.

A lot has been made about Town’s transfer window and the need to ‘recruit more’. But with four changes coming into the team on Tuesday, we still looked our usual, hard-working selves with one player in particular staking his claim for a regular start.

That was Omari Hutchinson. Who was just magnificent.

The Jamaican winger made an up-and-down start to his time in Suffolk, and I’ll put my hands up and admit his initial cameos didn’t fill me with confidence he could make an impact to this side.

Boy was I wrong and it just goes to show what a few months working with McKenna can do.

It’s a magical time to be an Ipswich Town fan and although it’s early doors, the signs show that this group and it’s manager are not just aiming, but capable of doing big things this season.
