Ipswich Town column: Joey Sadler discusses the club’s form this season and Kieran McKenna’s style of play

Eight points clear of third, 11 ahead of 7th and nine unbeaten in all competitions.

The Tractor Boys are absolutely flying, but you don’t need me to tell you that and everyone has found out just how good this Kieran McKenna side is.

There was a lot of talk last season about how Town would be ‘better equipped for the Championship’ with a style of play may suit the level above.

But goodness me, I didn’t think it would be this successful.

A 3-0 romp over Hull City was followed by an equally flamboyant 4-2 scoreline over Preston, with Town for large parts looking a cut above their third-placed visitors.

We really do look the real deal and I know it’s early doors, but eight points ahead of third place is some gap to have, at any time of the season.

Am I beginning to dream or do my feet remain firmly on the ground? I’ll tell you it’s the latter, but whether you believe me or not is up to you.

I will admit, however, that I don’t think there are many sides in this division who can cope with The Tractor Boys on their day.

We’re 11 matches in and have faced almost half of the teams in this league already, winning nine of them, which is just extraordinary.

However, you never know what is round the corner and potential adversity we’re undoubtedly due to face.

Saying that, this team appears to thrive under any pressure put in front of them, with ‘running towards adversity’ the club’s slogan.

It’s early days and I believe the new year is always the most accurate marker of where teams are really at.

But this exciting Ipswich Town team continue to take the league by storm and the best part is that I still think we’ve got a few more gears to go up yet.

Focus now turns to Wembley, with England facing an old foe in Australia.

It’s a game in which we want The Three Lions to win of course, but one we all want to see Massimo Luongo and Cameron Burgess play their part in.
