Ipswich Town: Joey Sadler reflects on strong win against Millwall and Massimo Luongo’s goal the best he’s seen under manager Kieran McKenna

Wednesday brought two new experiences for me. Watching a game at Portman Road in the fog being one, with the second being Massimo Luongo and The Tractor Boys’ second goal, as I think that may be one of the best we’ve ever scored under Kieran McKenna.

Saturday’s 2-0 defeat away at West Brom was disappointing but if there’s one thing we know about this McKenna team it’s that they always bounce back and come 8.15pm on Wednesday they were 2-0 up.

There was a lot to admire about the win against Millwall, especially in the first half, as the Blues were able to show the crowd and millions watching on Sky Sports that this is how we do things at Portman Road.

The second period was a little slower, as they usually are when you’re three up at the break, but Town could’ve still scored more and bar a late Millwall consolation, should be very proud of their efforts. I certainly was.

We’re back in the midst of a busy schedule, with the next fixture with Coventry City kicking off a rather tasty December.

Fixtures away at Middlesborough and Watford follow before a certain event on the 16th December, so I think we’ve got to be looking at the Sky Blues’ visit this Saturday as a big opportunity to get three points.

Last season’s play-off finalists haven’t quite recovered since their Wembley heartbreak, but do head into this one off the back of two consecutive victories, as well as three clean sheets on the bounce.

Can Town change that? Yes they can and I think it will have to take an absolutely triumphant effort from anyone to stop McKenna’s team scoring at home.

I fancy us to win and it’s going to be interesting to see where we are come this time next month.

A big period requires big players to step up.

Lucky for us, we’ve got that in abundance.
