11 Suffolk fire crews deal with ammonia leak at Lowestoft food factory
Eleven fire crews have been called to deal with an ammonia leak at a Suffolk food factory.
Crews from as far away as Hadleigh and Haverhill were called to the Bird’s Eye factory, in Lowestoft.
The crews were trying to find the source of an ammonia leak.
Emergency services were first alerted to the leak just before 4.30pm.
A spokesman for Suffolk Fire Service confirmed no-one was hurt in the incident.
Suffolk Police officers also attended the scene. No evacuation was necessary.
The fire service confirmed the leak was located and made safe by 7pm.
In 2019, the factory was featured on the BBC2 show, Inside the Factory with Greg Wallace. It detailed the volume of potato waffles made at the site. Back then, the Lowestoft factory was stamping out a massive one million waffles every 24 hours.
