The Botanist in Ipswich apply to Ipswich Borough Council for permission to carry out repair work

Repair work is set to be carried out at a popular bar and restaurant in a Suffolk town centre, if listed building consent is approved.

The Botanist on Ipswich Cornhill has applied for permission to carry out repairs to a damaged ceiling beam.

The venue, known for its cocktails, opened in Ipswich last year in the former post office – a Grade II listed building.

Due to the historic nature of the building the business has to apply for listed building consent to repair the beam, and repair and reinstate a decorative ‘cornice detail’.

The proposed repair works also include the installation of lathe and plaster ceiling, with one layer of fire rated plaster board.

Businesses surrounding The Botanist, on 1 Cornhill, have now been notified of the plans by Ipswich Borough Council and have until October 17 to comment.
