Site of former Wilko store in Risbygate Street, Bury St Edmunds, is up for sale, confirms Eddisons

A former Wilko store in a historic town centre is now on the market.

The 39,000 sq ft premises in Risbygate Street, Bury St Edmunds, has been empty since Wilko closed in September 2023, after the company went into administration.

A small section of the property sits within the town centre conservation area, meaning it is a place of historical value.

Simon Burton, from Eddisons, the estate agency marketing the site, said: “Independent and regional retail operators are underpinning the retail resilience of the town in bucking the trend of the national picture.

“Equally, the town continues to see continued residential development and regeneration of older sites for alternative uses.

“This is a prominent site in the town centre and will be of strong appeal to occupiers and developers alike, with strong early interest already received.’’

Eddisons announced it had been appointed to market the former Wilko store, which stands on an 1.236 acre site, earlier today. It is available to let on a new lease or for freehold sale.

Further interest is expected for continued retail or redevelopment uses - subject to planning permission

Wilko closed it’s doors in 2023, after 12 years of trading in the town.
