Tributes to Stowmarket mum-of-two, Annie Thompson, who has died six weeks after A1088 crash near Euston

Tributes have been pouring in for a ‘happy and smiley’ mum who has died following a car crash earlier this year.

Annie Thompson, 35, from Stowmarket, was returning home with her two children from a holiday near Sheringham, Norfolk, when the accident happened on August 17.

Her Audi A6 was involved in a two car crash, on the A1088, near Euston, just after 7pm.

Ms Thompson, a mental health support worker, was in intensive care for five weeks following the accident.

Her daughter Elise, 17, and son Zak, 5, were also injured in the crash.

Sister, Bex Thompson, from Elmswell, said: “Annie lost her fight for life last Friday.

“She was in intensive care for five weeks, before moving onto a general ward, and we held out hope.

“But, in the end, her body just wasn’t strong enough.

“Annie was an amazing person. She would light up the room when she walked in; she would go out of her way to help anyone; she was always happy and smiley.

“We have been inundated with messages of support from friends she has made of many years.

“We would like to thank everyone for their support.”

Ms Thompson was rushed to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, following the accident.

She had been returning from on a camping holiday with her two children, and her beloved dog Mishka, at the time.

Annie’s mum, Lynne, was following in the car behind at the time.

More than 20 volunteers helped search for the dog following the accident.

Daughter Elise was also seriously injured in the crash but is now in recovery.

Son Zak suffered minor injuries.

A man in his 40s, who was driving the second vehicle, an Audi A4, died at the scene.

On Saturday, more than 30 bikers arrived at the village of Elmswell, where Ms Thompson, grew up.

Bex, and mum, Lynne, were there to welcome them as they arrived with presents for Elise and Zak.

“We have a family friend who is a member of a biker group and they brought presents including toiletries for Elise and Hot Wheels cars for Zak. It was so kind of them,” said Bex, 37.

“The trip was pre-arranged, and even more moving that they should arrive, the day after Annie died.”

A fund-raising drive to help support Annie’s family was set up shortly after the accident.

It raised more than £2,000 in the first 24 hours.

The fund is still ongoing with people paying tribute and donating.

“We have been overwhelmed by the support people have shown,” said Bex.

“We will keep the fund open to help Elise and Zak as they grow up.

“Elise is being as strong as she can at the moment and though Zak knows his mummy is in heaven, he doesn’t yet quite understand.

“Thank you to everyone who has contributed.

“It shows how much Annie was loved.”

Police, ambulance crews and an air ambulance attended the accident on August 17.

Suffolk Police are appealing for witnesses or any dashcam footage.
