Thetford’s Tree of Remembrance for lost loved ones at Christmas set to go up in London Road Cemetery

A tree to remember loved ones who have died and will not be here this Christmas is being set up at Thetford’s cemetery next week.

The Memorial Christmas Tree, which has been sponsored by Mark Skinner Funeral Service, is outside the London Road Cemetery’s chapel.

As in previous years, there will be a box of wooden heart decorations placed inside the chapel porch that can be used to leave a message for family members and friends that have been laid to rest.

Councillor Terry Jermy, chairman of Thetford Town Council’s amenities committee, said: “Christmas can be a difficult time for many people, particularly if you have recently lost a loved one.
“The memorial tree gives people an opportunity to leave a message of remembrance and the chance for quiet reflection.”

Mark Skinner said he was happy to once again be involved with the idea, as some people find it hard this time of year after a loss.

He added: “We know through comments we receive, that hanging the wooden hearts containing personal and heartfelt messages to lost loved ones – especially at this time of year, when families usually come together - means the world to people and that is why we are so pleased to provide the memory trees each year.”
