Mildenhall Town re-sign playmaker Jake Chambers-Shaw after stint with Bury Town
Player-manager Phil Weavers has strengthened his table-topping Mildenhall Town squad with the signing of Jake Chambers-Shaw.
It marks the start of a second spell at The Riverside Stadium for the playmaker, who was part of the Mildenhall squad that competed in the Pitching In Isthmian League North Division during the 2017/18 campaign.
Chambers-Shaw made a total of 35 appearances for the club – scoring seven goals – before moving on to spend four years with neighbouring Bury Town.
The former Cambridge United youngster left the Blues in the summer of 2022 and has spent the last 18 months travelling, but he has now returned to the country and opted to link up with the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division leaders.
Weavers, who saw his side open up a four-point gap at the summit last weekend, said: “As a management team you are always on the look out for players becoming available that can add to your squad. As soon as we knew Jake was looking to get back into it we were keen to bring him in and we’ve been fortunate enough to do that.
“Shawry’s pedigree and quality speak for themselves, he’s got the ability to play in numerous roles across the midfield and he gives us genuine options in terms of both how we set up and how we want to play.
“He’s been away for 18 months travelling and he’s the first to acknowledge he needs some time to get fully up to speed, but to be honest, with the experience he has of playing higher-level football and still at at a good age at 26, I can’t see it taking him long at all to get to where he wants to be.
“We are exactly half way through the season now so its a timely boost for us ahead of what is going to be a tough run-in.
“Shawry and Mildenhall have nothing but fond memories of each other from their time together previous and I know he is excited by the prospect of coming in and doing all he can to help the club achieve something this season.”
Chambers-Shaw is expected to be in the Mildenhall squad for Saturday’s home encounter against Walsham-le-Willows (3pm).
