Suffolk Covid-19 cases on the rise including in West Suffolk, Babergh, East Suffolk and Ipswich
Covid-19 cases are on the rise in Suffolk, according to the latest data.
In the seven days to September 9, 183 cases were recorded which was an increase of 32.6 per cent.
By local authority area, the Government statistics show there were:
36 cases in West Suffolk – up 24.1 per cent
24 in Mid Suffolk – static
28 in Babergh – up 47.4 per cent
68 in East Suffolk – up 54.5 per cent
27 in Ipswich – up 22.7 per cent
It comes as the latest round of Covid booster vaccinations gets under way, with residents in care homes for the elderly among the first to receive their jabs this week.
The rollout has been brought forward as a precaution against the latest Omicron subvariant of Covid-19, BA.2.86, which was first identified in the UK on August 18.
But it is still too early to assess the impact of the new strain, with scientists saying they need more data before drawing ‘firm conclusions’.
