West Suffolk College sets up virtual careers event to find next generation of staff





A college has arranged a virtual careers event to find its next generation of staff.

The virtual event will be hosted by West Suffolk College, Bury St Edmunds, on Tuesday April 13 2021 at 3pm.

It will be give potential employees the chance to talk to the current staff about job opportunities at one of the largest educational establishments in the county.

The event has been created by Human Resources Manager, Katy Frith.

She said: “I feel that an online event is a safe environment to learn about the college and it will give prospective employees the chance to ask questions and find out more about what we offer.

“We are committed to becoming a real employer of choice for the region and the college is a great place to work.

"There are a vast number of opportunities and scope for progression and personal development.”

The college currently has 14 vacancies.

Roles that are open are for administrators, technicians and tutors.

“We are working in a different world and we want to make people aware of the vast amount of opportunities we have at the college," added Katy Frith

"People have changing priorities and transferable skills that can have a massively positive impact in an educational setting, although you won’t necessarily have to have had an educational background.

The former aerospace engineer had to look an new opportunities after being furloughed is now back at the college as a lecturer.

She said: “I enjoyed my job as an aerospace engineer but then Covid hit and I was forced to adapt.

"As soon as I was furloughed, my life went from 100mph to virtually nothing.

"I started looking at other options and one of those was at West Suffolk College.

"I enjoyed my time here and didn’t think twice about applying for a job.

“When they rang up to tell me I’d been successful, I was with my mum and it was a lovely moment to share with her.”
