Peterborough United forward Reuben Marshall signs on loan for AFC Sudbury while club rewards fans with free coach to Long Eaton United

AFC Sudbury’s forward line has been strengthened further after Peterborough United striker Reuben Marshall joined the Step 3 club on loan until the end of the year.

The 18-year-old was Posh’s second top scorer across the Sky Bet League One club last season, netting 24 times in just 33 appearances for their under-18s side which went on to lift two trophies.

Marshall’s loan move was only confirmed hours ahead of his debut for the Yellows coming in Saturday’s 2-0 home win – their first victory in front of their own fans this season – in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central against Bromsgrove Sporting.

And AFC Sudbury boss Marc Abbott is hopeful he can have a big impact alongside recent new additions Adam Mills and Billericay Town’s Malachi Napa.

"Reuben's in with us until the end of December,” he said.

"He is a current first-year professional who has scored a healthy amount of goals last season for the under-18s.

"He's come back off an operation in the summer to clear an existing injury (calf).

"He'll add some creativity and power to the frontline.

“He's a good runner and he looked to cause some problems for the opposition on Saturday so we're happy with that one.”

He added: “We thank Ryan Semple at Peterborough United for allowing Reuben to continue his development with us and trusting us with a player with such high potential.”

AFC Sudbury currently occupy the final of four relegation spots but are two points from safety ahead of travelling to basement side Long Eaton United on Saturday (3pm).

And the club are rewarding any of those present in the 300-strong crowd with free coach travel to the Nottinghamshire club alongside the players and management on Saturday – departing at 10am – on a first-come basis.
