Bury St Edmunds parkrun cancelled as Storm Henk causes safety concerns

A town’s second parkrun of the 2024 has been cancelled due to Storm Henk as more rain is expected in the county.

The event was set to take place on Saturday, January 6 at Nowton Park in Bury St Edmunds – but organisers have decided to call it off as the ground is waterlogged.

Storm Henk is continuing to cause issues due to severe weather and there is a yellow weather warning in place for Suffolk until 3am tomorrow.

A parkrun organiser said: “We have decided to cancel Saturday’s event.

“This is to protect our runners and also to avoid wear and tear to our lovely venue.”

Bury St Edmunds parkrun started in 2013 and has since seen 12,192 participants take part in the 5k run.
