Tinker’s End, Thorpeness holiday let scoops regional award

Two Suffolk proprietors have picked up a regional award for having an excellent holiday home.

Tim and Juliette Crisp scooped silver in the Best in East Anglia category for their beachfront apartment in Tinkers End, Thorpeness, near Southwold at the Sykes Holiday Cottages national travel awards.

The property, which sits on the Suffolk coastline, was originally purchased by the couple to retire to, but decided to jump into holiday letting in the meantime to generate some additional income.

Since it became available last year, holidaymakers have flocked to the house, with it booked up throughout 2023.

Juliette said: “We’ve put so much into making 3 Tinkers End a success, and constantly get great feedback from our visitors, but an award like this really does mean a lot.

“We plan to eventually retire to the apartment so we can be near the sea, but until then it is a privilege to be able to help travellers make memories which will last a lifetime.”

Properties were judged using owner entries as well as guest feedback, alongside other details including photos, occupancy rates and property amenities.

Tim and Juliette’s property in Tinker’s End boasts an open plan living space, impressive beachfront views, plush furnishings and a modern kitchen and bathroom.

The Sykes Gems Awards were first launched in 2017, and aim to celebrate the best people and properties in the UK holiday let sector.

Graham Donoghue, CEO of Sykes Holiday Cottages, said: “We’re excited to have relaunched the Sykes Gems to recognise and reward some of the best holiday lets across the country.

“A lot of work goes into running a successful holiday let so it was a difficult decision amongst so many wonderful properties, but our final winners are those consistently going above and beyond to deliver unforgettable breaks for their guests.

“Staycations are as popular as ever in 2023, with many Brits having rediscovered their love of a holiday at home during the pandemic; because of this, those with a second home in East Anglia might be tempted to turn it into a holiday let – with our Gem Award winners offering plenty of inspiration for those who need it.”

The judging panel for the awards were impressed by Tim and Juliette’s property’s style and facilities, as well as the guest feedback on cleanliness, comfort and value for money.
