Urban Forestry based in Ingham, near Bury St Edmunds, scoops prestigious award for Botesdale recreation ground project
A landscaping and tree surgery company has won a prestigious industry award.
Urban Forestry, based in Ingham, near Bury St Edmunds, won the Principal Award in the Community and Schools Development category at The British Association of Landscape Industries' (BALI) awards.
The awards, held at Park Lane, London, is the largest of its kind in Europe, and showcases the finest examples of landscaping excellence in the UK and overseas.
Urban Forestry transformed Botesdale Recreation Ground in Mill Road North, based on a design by landscape architects James Blake Associates, Bury St Edmunds.
The whole project was delivered on behalf of Botesdale Parish Council with the aim of creating a ‘positive and long-lasting impact on the local community’.
Ian Choules, director of Urban Forestry, said: “I am very proud of the team and the work completed at Botesdale. We were impressed with the design from James Blake which our team of landscapers implemented.”
The recreation area now features a range of facilities for all ages and abilities, including play and exploration features, alongside health, fitness and well-being equipment. The design also recognised the need for more tranquil spots, and use of the recreation ground as a meeting and socialising hub.
Adrian Rampley, contracts manager at the company, added: “We aim to ensure every project we undertake is handled with a high level of organisation, diplomacy and an ongoing positive attitude.”
BALI chief executive Wayne Grills said: “This fantastic achievement is testament to a very good scheme which has transformed an underused facility that attracted undesirable youths to a space fit for all age groups and families.”
