Haverhill-based REACH Community Projects releases final video in its festive cooking series
A Haverhill charity has released the final part of its three video series aimed at helping families, struggling with what is often a very expensive time of year, to prepare some of the Christmas treats that help build memories.
Having shown how to cook a delicious Christmas dinner and then add all the special trimmings, Colin Ord, professional chef with Ashdon Catering, has now set about making that great British baking standard, sausage rolls.
The series of three Taste of Christmas videos are not only a feature of the Making Christmas Memories theme within REACH’s 2023 Christmas Appeal but are an integral part of the ongoing hardship prevention project which includes education in budgeting and cooking skills which, it is hoped, will assist many families, and individuals, in avoiding financial crisis.
As the final one of the series of videos was made available online, REACH’s CEO, Henry Wilson, said: “All the videos in this series are great but I have been especially looking forward to this one.
“Sausage Rolls are my favourite and I know they are for so many, bringing not only a tasty treat but also adding a little excitement to the Christmas family experience. That’s what memories are made of.”
Despite some better news in terms of headline data recently, REACH points out that prices generally are still increasing, fuel costs are rising, rents are going up – with the accompanying threat of eviction – and there is a big catch up for many who have been buffering their finances with the heavy use of credit cards over many, many months.
Henry continued: “At this very important time of year, I want to thank all of our supporters, donors, volunteers and staff for their contributions in enabling Christmas Memories to be made for so many who go without for much of the year.
“We want everyone, especially those hardest hit by the cost of living or circumstances that they sadly find themselves in, to share in the joy of the season.
“And, a big, big thank you to Colin for generously giving his time to make these wonderful videos.”
In parallel with its well known and effective support in terms of debt counselling, welfare provision, benefits applications and emergency food provision, the future for REACH and its growing list of needy families includes a developing and expanding programme of measures aimed firmly at trying to prevent the hardship which so sadly exists within our society today.
