Bury St Edmunds architectural designer launches office in Whiting Street
An architectural designer is busy building his future after moving into his first office.
Will Smith, 31, has set up shop in Whiting Street, Bury St Edmunds.
Mr Smith, who is a chartered architectural technologist, has worked on around 100 projects since first setting up his business, Carlyon Architecture, two years ago.
“I’ve been really pleased with how things have been going since I founded the company, with most of the work coming through word of mouth,” said Will, who lives in Bury.
“I was previously hotdesking between Bury and Stowmarket and decided getting an office would be the best next step for the business.
“It is a great location in central Bury. I will look to take on my first staff member next year, and also growing projects.
“Over the longer term, I hope to develop multi-disciplinary office to include planning consultants, structural engineers and project managers.”
Carlyon Architecture offers concept design, planning, developed design and planning, detailed design and building regulations, construction phase and site management.
Will trained as an architectural technologist at Nottingham Trent University, before working at design consultancy Pick Everard, developer Pearsons Capital Projects and family business, Trevor Smith Building.
Carlyon projects so far have been within a 20 mile radius of Bury but have also included north Norfolk and Cambridge.
These have included new build homes, home extensions, commercial and light industrial buildings.
“My passion is contemporary design and heritage construction and I am hoping to grow this side of the business,” added Will.
“I like to think I am fresh in terms of industry knowledge and approachable for my clients and their project.
“I am involved within the development side of projects and have also worked with many of the estate agents across the town.
“I am thoroughly enjoying having a new central base in town.”
