Suffolk could be hit with ‘disruptive snow’ next week, Met Office warns

Suffolk could be hit with ‘disruptive snow’ from next week as temperatures plunge.

According to The Met Office, an arctic airmass is set to bring cold air from Sunday and into early next week.

Ahead of the weekend, largely cool and dry conditions are in place for much of the UK, with sub-zero temperatures for many.

David Hayter, deputy chief meteorologist, said the initial snow risk is most likely to be focused around coastal northern areas of Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Meanwhile, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) issued a cold-health alert, warning of the weather’s potential impact on the health and social care sector.

The cold weather could have a serious impact on those over the age of 65 and those with pre-existing health conditions.

Dr Agostinho Sousa, head of extreme events and health protection at UKHSA, said: “It is vital to check in on friends, family and neighbours to ensure they are well prepared for the cold weather next week.”

The alert is in place until next Thursday.

With the potential for snow and ice, travel could be impacted and drivers have been advised to be prepared in the event of a breakdown.
