Newmarket trainer’s wife’s fashion line has proved a favourite with top jockey Ryan Moore
Flat racing star jockey Ryan Moore has shown his stylish side by modelling a fashion brand launched by the wife of a top Newmarket trainer.
The three-time champion jockey, whose victories at the Breeders’ Cup meeting at Santa Anita in California earlier this month thrilled the racing world, took time off from his busy schedule to try on some of his favourite pieces from the winter collection of Hanako Varian’s Newmarket 875.
And the good news for fashion and racing fans is the collection will be on sale at the forthcoming Presents Galore Christmas bazaar at Newmarket’s Rowley Mile racecourse next weekend.
Ryan was photographed with his partner Michelle and three of their children, at Carlburg Stables where Hanako’s husband Roger trains.
“I really admire Hanako’s commitment to promoting the town of Newmarket and the sport of horseracing through her fashion brand,” he said. “I’ve enjoyed listening to her talk about Newmarket 875, the reasons why she chose to launch the business and her plans for its future. It’s an interesting and innovative idea and I really hope it’s successful.”
Hanako, who hails from Japan, wanted to promote racing to new marketplaces which is what motivated her to found a fashion brand which she hoped would raise the profile of the sport and its historic home, Newmarket.
She said when she spoke to Ryan about why she launched Newmarket 875, Hanako said she was thrilled to find him fully behind her vision for the brand and their conversation led to him making his belated modelling debut at the age of 40.
He showcased knitwear made in Italy from cashmere sourced in Scotland and Italian-made jackets.
Presents Galore will be held from Friday, November 24, to Sunday, November 26. The shopping extravaganza will feature more than 120 stalls including a number new to the event and live performances.
As well as the new Cambridge Children’s Hospital, the event will also support Newmarket Charitable Foundation and the National Horseracing Museum and organisers are hoping to exceed the £60,000 raised last year.
Tickets are on sale at £8 per adult, in advance online, £10 per adult on the door and £6 for Blue Light Card holders with ID. Under-16s are free with an accompanying adult. Tickets can be purchased via www.presentsgalore.org or at the National Horseracing Museum gift shop.
