A14 closure between Ipswich and Needham Market: Man arrested after lorry overturns near Claydon
A man has been arrested after a lorry overturned on the A14 near Ipswich early this morning – which is still causing major delays.
Police were alerted to the route at 5:10am following reports that a lorry was on its side near Claydon.
The driver, a man in his 40s, was arrested on suspicion of driving with excess drugs and possession of a controlled drug.
He was initially taken to Ipswich Hospital for treatment, before being transferred to Martlesham police station for questioning, where he remains.
Both lanes on the A14 between Claydon and Beacon Hill, near Needham Market, remain closed.
The route is expected to remain blocked into the afternoon, a police spokeswoman said.
Motorists travelling westbound are advised to follow the below diversion route:
• Exit the A14 at J52 Claydon onto the B1113.
• After 600 yards turn right and continue on the B1113 through Great Blakenham and Needham Market to the signalised junction with the A1120.
• At the junction turn right and continue on the A1120 to re-join the A14 westbound carriageway at J50 Cedars.
Those travelling eastbound are advised to follow the below diversion route:
• Exit the A14 at J51 Beacon Hill and take the second exit (A14 entry slip) from the Roundabout.
• From the entry slip turn left and then turn right onto Norwich Road.
• Continue on Norwich Road through Barham and Claydon to re-join the A14 eastbound carriageway at J52 Claydon.
