Firefighters battle massive blaze at Riverhills Health Club & Spa on outskirts of Ipswich

Firefighters have battled a massive blaze at a spa complex on the outskirts of Ipswich.

Seventeen crews fought the flames at Riverhills Health Club & Spa, off Bramford Road, through the night.

Group manager Sally Hammond said they were called at about 12.20am and the fire started in the swimming pool area.

“The crews worked really hard and really quickly to save the main part of the building which we did,” she said.

An investigation will be launched into its cause.

Police were alerted by the fire service at 12.45am.

Road closures were in place between Papermill Lane and Weaver Close.
