Bury St Edmund’s Marham Park, south of Mildenhall Road and east of Tut Hill, set to get new green space

A green space forming part of a 330-home development in Bury St Edmunds has been approved.

The plans for Marham Park, south of Mildenhall Road and east of Tut Hill, were given the green light by West Suffolk Council on Friday, June 30.

The reserved matters application relates to land next to the development’s two most western sections of houses.

This will form a ‘green corridor’, with trees, hedges, flowers and a footpath – which will lead onto other footpaths.

The design and access statement explains: “The overall concept behind the design of the green corridor is to create an accessible amenity space with a naturalistic feel, and to aid biodiversity.”

The plans include native tree species along the south-western development of the site, between the public right of way and the boundary of the two western parcels.

A lawn planted with grasses, wildflowers and bulbs will also sit next to the footpath, which will be made of crushed limestone.

According to the design and access statement, the main principles underpinning the corridors’ design will be: ‘sympathetic’ character integrating with the rest of the development; enhancing biodiversity; providing amenity for the community; strengthening the edge of Marham Park; maintaining and enhancing public rights of way, and creating an attractive outlook for the new homes.

Earlier this year, plans for a massive David Lloyd Leisure Centre at Marham Park were submitted.

A reserved matters application for the two sections of land to be bordered by the corridor was approved in February 2021.
