First wave of Suffolk superstar Ed Sheeran’s donations to East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices fetch £3,500 at auction

Boxer shorts donated by Suffolk superstar Ed Sheeran fetched more than £200 apiece as his donations were auctioned off for a fundraiser – which has collected more than £3,500 in a week.

Last Monday, East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) revealed it had been handed nearly 450 items of clothing and accessories from Framlingham-born Ed Sheeran.

Overwhelming public interest meant the first round of auctions was brought forward, and kicked off on November 14.

Sale of the first 20 items ended on Sunday having raised more than £3,500 – with five items being sold to overseas bidders.

The top-seller was a Platinum Jubilee Charlie Mackesy T-shirt, which went for £510, while donated boxer shorts went for about £200 each.

A Sunday Funday long sleeve T-shirt sold for £310 and a pair of used socks was snapped up for £155.

More auctions are scheduled for this week, ending on November 24 and 26.

One item up for grabs is an Ipswich Town replica top, which has more than 68 bids and currently sits at £720.

Ian Nicolson, EACH’s director of retail, said he hoped the momentum would continue into the coming weeks.

He said: “To raise around £3,500 from the first 20 items was incredible and there were some eye-catching sales, including the boxer shorts, which all went for around £200.

“A pair of Ellen DeGeneres ones sold for £257.

“It’s great fun and there are still lots of chances for people to bid on other things, with many more items now online and auctions ending this Friday and Sunday.

“Every pound raised will make a difference and help us continue our vital work supporting families and caring for children across East Anglia.”
