Ed Sheeran stops off at Stowupland Fish Shop, near Stowmarket, as he celebrates seventh number one album with Autumn Variations
Ed Sheeran celebrated his seventh number one album by stopping off in a Suffolk village for fish and chips.
The Suffolk singer-songwriter, who topped the charts with Autumn Variations, surprised customers at Stowupland Fish Shop yesterday with his wife Cherry Seaborn at about 6.30pm.
Paige Osborne, 16, was working behind the counter when she spotted the superstar.
“I was standing there and I thought it was someone who looked like Ed Sheeran,” she said.
“I said ‘oh look it’s an Ed Sheeran look-alike’ to a staff member and it turned out to be him.”
His order included scampi, fish and chips, curry sauce, mushy peas and two cans of drink.
There were about 10 customers in the shop at the time and more soon turned up when they heard about the village’s brush with stardom.
Paige is a big fan of the singer and has worked for two months at the shop, which is run by Ali Guzel.
She said: “I was quite shocked. I was alright in the moment but after I was like ‘Ed Sheeran just came in’.”
Stefanie Marie and her friend Paula Wiggins asked Ed for a photo, having just missed him when he served pints at Ipswich Town Football Club and celebrated with players following the side’s victory over Hull City on Tuesday night.
Paula asked the couple what brought them to Stowupland for fish and chips.
“Ed said they really fancied fish and chips and this shop was recommended to them,” said Stefanie.
“They asked us what the pubs are like here. I said if they like Thai food, I highly recommend the Retreat pub. They said they love Thai food.
“Paula then invited them back to mine for Prosecco and karaoke but sadly they had to get going.”
She added that it was lovely to meet them and they were such a nice, down to earth couple.
Ed, who grew up in Framlingham, this week showcased his Fan Living Room Sessions after he met 14 fans, playing them each a song from Autumn Variations.
