Flooding in Lower Road, Lavenham, between Bury St Edmunds and Sudbury, sparks concerns from residents amid Storm Henk

Village councillors have echoed residents’ concerns over repeated flooding after Lavenham was hit by Storm Henk earlier this week.

Residents have taken to social media to express their frustrations after the storm flooded village roads, leading to an emergency road closure of Lower Road.

Lavenham has been hit with flooding several times in recent months following storms and heavy rain including Storm Babet.

In a Facebook post, one resident said: “That’s worst I’ve seen it. Its usually bad, but that’s horrific.

Another said: “The floods seem to be higher and more frequent than 'back in the day’.”

The road was closed on Tuesday due to a heavy downpour caused by Storm Henk.

Parish Clerk Andrew Smith said: “We share the concerns of our residents.

“We have taken this issue up many times with Suffolk Highways and they plan no measures to reduce the susceptibility of the road to closure.

“Elsewhere in the village residents continue to express their frustrations to Suffolk Highways concerning overwhelmed drains.”
