Newly refurbished public toilets are open to the public following weeks of work which cost more than £50,000.
The toilets in Gaol Lane, Sudbury, have been refurbished by East Anglia-based LWJ Solutions.
Babergh District Council committed the funds for the project which is part of wider plans to improve public toilets in the town – including new facilities at Belle Vue Park.
Cllr Daniel Potter, cabinet member for environment at Babergh District Council, said: “Upgrading the toilets at Gaol Lane has been something both we and Sudbury Town Council have been wanting to do for several years – so it’s great to see these plans come to life.
“These facilities were showing their age – so the new refurbishment will play a key role in the regeneration of the town centre.”
The revamped toilets include new sinks, toilets, flooring, tiles and the outside of the building has also been updated.
The building’s four female cubicles, one male cubicle, two urinals and a disabled toilet were in poor condition before the works started.
It has been met with a mixed reaction on social media with some believing the money should have been spent elsewhere.
One commenter said: “Cannot believe the council are boasting they have spent £50k on toilets - is that really the priority of the town? I think not.”
Another added: “They need to employ someone that takes pride in cleaning.”
However, not all comments were negative as one post said: “Great modern clean toilets, now visitors to Sudbury town will be pleased.”
Another said: “That’s fab, I hope people will appreciate and look after them.”
Ciaran Griffin, town clerk at Sudbury Town Council, said: “We’ve been working alongside Babergh District Council over several years to plan the upgrade of these well-used toilets in our town.
“The refurbished and improved facilities look great and will be an asset to the residents and visitors of Sudbury."
