Sapiston sheep escape from Coney Weston Road field onto Bardwell Road as residents join forces to herd them back
Residents joined forces yesterday morning to herd dozens of escaped sheep that were running down a main village road.
Paul Sparkes, who lives in Sapiston, noticed the large herd had got free from their field off Coney Weston Road when his partner Sammie was leaving for work at around 7.30am.
More than 50 sheep were on the loose and residents, as well as people from the nearby Euston estate, rallied around to coax them back into their pen.
Mr Sparkes said: "We were videoing it to start with, but then I thought 'we better call the Old Bill' because they were all going down the main road.
"Before the police turned up there were quite a few of us neighbours trying to herd them.
"Me and my two girls went out there and we all tried to round them up and ushered them back towards the field," he added.
He said they blocked the road off with a car to prevent any accidents while the animals were loose.
Pictures and videos taken by Mr Sparkes show more than 50 sheep running down the residential streets.
The sheep were successfully herded back into their field.
