Ipswich School headteacher Nicholas Weaver to stand down in 2024 after 14 years
The headteacher of an independent school thanked staff and pupils as he announces he will leave the role next year.
Nicholas Weaver, who has been at the helm of Ipswich School for 14 years, has said he will stand down from his position during the summer of 2024.
Through his tenure, the school bagged a number of achievements, including receiving an excellent rating by the Independent School’s Inspectorate, placing second in the Co-Educational Independent School category at the Independent School of the Year 2022 awards, and being crowned national champions in hockey and cricket six times.
Mr Weaver said: “I love Ipswich School and have loved my time leading it for nearly 14 years of its centuries of history.
“Together with some outstanding staff and wonderful pupils we have achieved a great deal, both academically and in the co-curriculum, providing a proper all-round education.
“Having achieved so many goals, I now feel that it is time for me to move on to something different and new. Although I will miss sharing the day to day joy of young people reaching great heights, I will be excited to see Ipswich School go from strength to strength in the next chapter of its long life in the town.”
As a result of the news, Henry Staunton, the chairman of the school’s governors, wrote a letter to parents explaining that Ipswich School had begun the hunt ‘a strong successor’ to take the reins.
He hoped a new headteacher could lead the school with Mr Weaver’s commitment and resolve.
The school went from strength to strength, growing in numbers and reputation, under his leadership, he noted.
