Ipswich Town secure loan signing of Brighton & Hove Albion attacker Jeremy Sarmiento

Ipswich Town have completed the loan signing of Jeremy Sarmiento from Brighton & Hove Albion.

The 21-year-old, who represented Ecuador at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, spent the first half of the campaign on loan with Town’s fellow Sky Bet Championship outfit West Bromwich Albion.

He made a total of 20 appearances for the Baggies – scoring twice – before returning to his Premier League parent club at the start of the month.

However, rather than be reintegrated back into Roberto De Zerbi’s squad, Sarmiento has been loaned back out to the Tractor Boys until the end of the season.

“I’m very excited to be joining Ipswich at a time when they have been on a great run since winning promotion to the Championship,” Sarmiento told the club’s official website.

“Ipswich were always there, after interest in the summer which didn’t quite work out, but I’m here now and I’m ready to do my best.

“It’s happened quickly and smoothly and I’ve enjoyed my conversations with the manager, which made it clear this is where I should play, so I’m excited to try and show him what I can do and earn minutes in a team which plays a style I think will suit me.

“I am a direct player and like to get the fans on their feet with a bit of flair, which is a big side to my game, and I can’t wait to get started.”

Sarmiento, who came through the academy at Portuguese giants Benfica before joining Brighton in 2021, will wear the number 21 shirt during his stint at Portman Road.
